    The challenge

The retailer sold high-consideration bathroom products where buying journeys are long, comparison-heavy, and sensitive to trust. Magento was the right platform for the catalogue depth, but the site needed stronger technical foundations, better product journeys, and campaigns that reflected how people actually research bathrooms online.

The category was competitive across both organic and paid search. Generic traffic was expensive, branded demand was not enough to support growth, and the site had too many points where qualified users could lose momentum: slow pages, thin category content, inconsistent internal linking, and limited segmentation in campaigns.

Success meant growing revenue without simply increasing spend. The work needed to improve Magento performance, strengthen SEO architecture, make paid media more efficient, and create a feedback loop between what users searched for, what pages they landed on, and what ultimately converted.

    The approach

    Discovery and audit

The audit covered Magento templates, category structure, crawl behaviour, page speed, paid search terms, and conversion paths. A key finding was that paid and organic activity were being treated as separate workstreams, even though both depended on the same landing-page quality, product data, and category architecture.

    Platform and architecture

Magento 2 remained the right platform because the catalogue and product attributes needed more control than a simpler hosted platform would comfortably allow. The focus was not migration; it was making Magento cleaner, faster, and easier to convert through better category logic and technical governance.

    Build and optimisation phases

Development work focused on template improvements, performance tuning, structured data, internal linking, and product-page clarity. SEO work strengthened category content and crawl paths. PPC was rebuilt around tighter intent groups, Shopping segmentation, and landing pages that matched the buyer's stage in the journey.

    Tracking and decision-making

GA4, conversion tracking, and ecommerce reporting were tightened so decisions could be made from revenue data rather than surface-level traffic metrics. That changed the conversation from 'which channel drove this?' to 'which product journeys are actually profitable?'

    The results

Online revenue grew by 375% while order volume increased by more than 220%. That growth came from several compounding improvements rather than one dramatic change: stronger product discovery, better campaign segmentation, faster pages, and clearer conversion paths.

Paid media also became easier to scale because tracking and landing pages stopped fighting the campaigns. High-intent terms were routed to stronger category and product experiences, while SEO improvements increased the amount of qualified traffic arriving without paid spend attached.

    What did not go perfectly

This was not a short sprint result. The gains came through ongoing development and marketing work, with compounding improvements across Magento, SEO, PPC, and conversion rate optimisation.
